Survive 3: Riding the Angst Train

I told myself I wasn't going to look at when I lasted posted something but I did and, oh no, not me updating this mini serial once a year! I have it like 90% done so I will finish posting this year 😅

Memory Lane

I was looking for a scene in Sunshine to help me write something in Survive and it kind of sent me on a nostalgia trip of re-visting some of my old Vice work. And because I'm usually wondering 'WTF were you thinking when you wrote that ?' I re-read blogposts and boy...it's been a time. 

It's funny watching the journey of some serials. Especially my slow descent into madness about The Lost Sentinel--that one lasted for years.

I have so many thoughts about my older stuff. Most of it isn't pretty (In fact I've gone in an completely re-edited some chapters) but I miss creating.

One thing I did realize from a blog post was that En Moritas, the Vertias short story collection, was never publicly linked...which meant if I ever got locked out of my original website or the e-mail associated with shawnaharrison.yolasite.com (which I almost was), it would be lost forever.

So, I'm going through and making sure all my shawnaharrison.yolasite.com stuff has links. I'm putting it on my shawnaharrisonvance website because I want to preserve the terrible early oughts vibe of the shawnaharrison site.

Angst-mageddon

I found this  in a post about Sweet Prince and it's honestly the mission statement for most of everything I've written.

The reason I was looking at Sunshine is because in that serial Haley is kidnapped and young Grayson gets kidnapped with him and I realized some of that had similar vibes to Survive. Also, Sailor, the daughter Luce and Haley have in this AU fanfic is basically a mash up of Grayson and Gemma--Maxwell's daughter in Glassdoor. Young Gemma is a character I COMPLETELY forgot existed until I re-read something and realized I'd basically cribbed her for this.

Survive 3

Okay, so this is the New Aeterna x Years AU where Luce recovers from his accident and Haley and Luce have a daughter, Sailor, 9 months after they get married. They used Luce's sperm, a donor egg and then had the embryo implanted into Twyla (this will come up.)

They all get caught in The Siege when Nova is 12-years-old and Sailor is 2-weeks-old. Luce is the only one who is registered by the Helions and the rest of them hide out in the basement apartment. They are afraid if they are registered they will be separated. They use sign language to communicate so they aren't heard.

- 7 years into New Aeterna Luce doesn't come back home. We find out he was evacuated by Genesis, a single minded ambitious member of the Resistance who wants his tech skills. She can't  risk get his family out because she has dual citizenship and is being watched.

- Haley, Nova and Sailor stay in the basement too afraid they'll be arrested and separated if they leave. 

- 6 months later, when they are nearly out of food, Haley risks going outside and doesn't come back.  

- 6 months later, Nova and Sailor are completely out of food. On Sailor's 8th birthday Genesis comes into the basement, tells them Luce is alive and he sent her to take them to a safehouse. 

- She drives them to a trailer in an abandoned Central Park and introduces them to Ophelia, a transgender female Helion who has her wings caged to her back.
