Lost Sentinel TDOSH Part II

Let's Go Back

My internet browsers were in need of a serious update and I couldn't see my old posts or comments.  I didn't address them when I posted the TDOSH, so let's do that now.

I first mentioned TLS back in December 2016 when it at 300 words ! 

I posted The Lost Sentinel prologue in 2019, a little after my mermaid phase. I put the prologue for TLS at the end of Legacy, a short story about 11-year-old Charlotte Dory.

I had hit a huge wall on Lost Sentinel but figured posting it would force me to figure it out.

It didn't

At the time I was also writing the Lucely crime thriller Pulse. Speaking of which, I think now I'd call Pulse a mafia romance ? The way the cartel works is sort of mafia romance-like and the ultimate point of that story is the romance.

While I was writing Pulse I got the idea for Sunshine-- El Washington's story that takes place 18 years later.Writing Sunshine was so fun for me and writing Haley with a son was so new. I wasn't sure how much Haley/Grayson would be in the story but I wanted to explore them and got ideas for  side stories. Then I thought about what if Haley died and how Luce would connect with his son and  got the idea for Nova and then somehow got the idea for, So We Meet, etc, etc.

All that to say, The Lost Sentinel just lost it's shine at that point. I wanted to give it some time but it never re-sparked for me and I'm ready to close the door...unless someone wants me to write a video game.

I am honestly surprised I even posted TLS because I think deep down I knew I wanted to be in the Vice world.

Picking Favorites

Someone in the last comment section asked me my favorite Vice thing. The only one that I really like is...the first chapter of Burn, where Sky is scrambling to discover he is the kidnapped son of a politicin. I wish I'd let it stand alone and not done the rest of the serial. I like how it has a point and gets to it quickly.

I've ended up doing some re-reading of Pulse and Sunshine while writing this and I think one of my least favorites is actually Sunshine. That one needs some serious edits and it's hard for me to re-read it without re-thinking the whole story. I was just  juggling so many characters together and the writing is not my best.

I also have some thoughts about the serial Nova. I feel like I lost the plot of the character a little in Vice!Nova. I kinda forgot he is supposed to be a cybernetic clone and while I love a moody hot mess teen MC  I think I went too far with him.

Both Luce and Nova were softened a lot for Years and that could also be clouding my judgement. I don't think Luce being disabled was the best mirror for what happens to him in Vice where he is a cyborg breaking down. I don't think there is another way to do it but I don't think the stakes are the exact same.

TLS TDOSH II

We are getting into new story territory!

The big set up for the series is that 19-year-old Finnas Bramley was a government project that turned an orphaned child into the ultimate weaponry against magical beasts terrorizing the city. But now they no longer have a need for a weapon
